You’ve likely tried enough conventional diet, exercise, and self-improvement programs to know that most of them don’t work as promised, or don’t work for long.

Maybe you’ve gotten frustrated, or even hopeless at times, about how impossible it seems to do all the things you are “supposed to do” to be healthy and still have any kind of life.

Still, you are determined to keep learning and growing. You are open to doing some things … differently.

  • DETERMINED to get to the root cause of their health challenges, not just suppress their symptoms or endlessly “manage” their chronic conditions

THIS EXPERIENCE is for anyone who is determined to be a healthy person in an unhealthy world — regardless of gender, age, race, ethnicity, size, or shape. At present, active members include health-seekers from 23 to 78, all of whom share similar goals of becoming their healthiest, happiest, most authentic selves.

THE WHAT AND WHY OF HEALTHY DEVIANT U

Many of the concepts in Healthy Deviant U are based on my book, The Healthy Deviant. You don’t have to read my book to join HDU, but if have read and liked it, I know you you’ll love HDU.

Healthy Deviant U is the best place to keep raising your own Healthy Deviant game.

EVEN BEFORE a whole bunch of converging global crises came bubbling up to meet us, our world was a challenged one — with well over half of U.S. adults chronically ill and overweight, and more than 75 percent suffering from mental and emotional troubles of all kinds.

According to research detailed in my book, The Healthy Deviant, it’s likely that only a single digit percentage of U.S. adults is currently healthy, happy, and on track to stay that way.

Clearly, we need to change the way we are living.

All of the recommendations in Healthy Deviant U are rooted in research-based tenets and bodies of knowledge, like Positive Psychology, psychoneuroimmunology, and Functional Medicine. They are also all grounded in the same simple, science-supported thesis I describe in the opening of my book.

Healthy Deviant U is my way of taking the perspectives and practices in my book and bringing them into real life. The HDU experience is designed help people overcome their longstanding states of chronic depletion and distraction, and to move beyond the conventional, woefully inadequate “self-improvement” approaches we’ve been encouraged to embrace.

Because let’s face it: The pat, superficial culture of “diet-and-exercise” hasn’t gotten us very far. In many cases, it has worked against us, setting us up for an endless cycle of trying and failing, chasing unrealistic, stereotyped ideals, and feeling worse about ourselves every step of the way.

As I note in my book, we CAN beat our society’s unhealthy odds, but NOT by following its status quo advice. Healthy Deviant U presents the more nuanced, reality-based advice I would suggest you follow instead.

Our 4-Phase Progress Pathway

IN HEALTHY DEVIANT U, we’ll explore and implement four key phases over the course of a year — through recorded and live video sessions, group and hot-seat coaching experiences, interactive exercises, real-life experiments, workbook materials, a supportive community, and more.

Phase 1:
Start Where You Are

Yoo hoo! Time to refocus your attention on your own wellbeing. In this phase we are focused on Nonconformist Competency No. 1: Amplified Awareness.

Notice what's working, and what's not. Leave unconscious choices and self-defeating patterns behind.

Locate your place on your Healthy Deviant Hero’s Journey, and take your next clear steps toward improved body-mind vitality.

Consider this your whispered wakeup call, and your invocation to a higher level of vitality, resilience, and autonomy.

You’ll learn to radically reframe what you’ve been thinking of as “your” health problems, and begin approaching your health-improvement with a completely different set of viewpoints and motivations.

You’ll also begin integrating some small but powerful (likely life-changing) daily Renegade Rituals with the power to return you to your most conscious and capable self.

Phase 2: Reclaim Your Mojo

Outwit exhaustion and overwhelm. Rebuild your energy, enthusiasm, and resilience.

In this phase, we’ll focus on reclaiming our diminished mojo through Nonconformist Competency No. 2: Preemptive Repair.

Here, you’ll learn how to get ahead of the damage done to you just by virtue of living in an inherently stressful, pro-inflammatory culture.

You’ll learn to outwit the Vicious Cycle of the Unhealthy Default Reality and embrace the Virtuous Cycle of Healthy Deviance instead.

You’ll run some daring, rewarding experiments in radical replenishment. You’ll also build power and momentum for next-level shifts, and lay the groundwork for an extraordinary next year.

Phase 3: Raise Your Game

Learn the survival skills of the new era by expanding your Healthy Deviant tradecraft.

In this phase, we lean into Nonconformist Competency No. 3: Continuous Growth and Learning.

Identify and prioritize essential know-how. Create a clear plan for acquiring the skills you are missing. Tackle the obstacles that have been holding you back.

Notice how making small, sustainable shifts delivers new energy, equanimity, and enthusiasm. Ditch your self-sabotaging tendencies and pursue the healthy goals of your choosing — without wearing yourself down.

Take stock of the new possibilities that come into view as fatigue, unhealthy cravings, and mood swings retreat and your newfound sense of vitality kicks into high gear.

Phase 4: Be the Change

Claim your Healthy Deviant identity and see your place in the bigger picture.

In this phase, we’ll focus on taking your Healthy Deviance to the next level — and to the places where you live, work, play and relate.

The goal of this final phase is to help you discover and step into your rightful role as a Healthy Deviant leader, and to feel into your own highest callings as an agent of change.

Here, you’ll assess your personal Healthy Deviant strengths and take stock of your desire to make Healthy Deviance a more central part of your life.

Create a plan to find and build your own Healthy Deviant community. Confidently live into the Healthy Deviant Manifesto as you motivate others to do the same.

Earn your Healthy Deviant Badge of Honor and wear it with pride.
